    Lavenham Priory

The pavement is not very wide so carefully find a spot opposite Lavenham Priory, the imposing white building.

Here we have a grand timbered building also showing hints in the pargetting on the wall. This building was not a Priory but was in fact a farm owned by Monks in Earls Colne in Essex. Farming continued here into the 1970s. This complex of buildings has been restored to its current glory.

It started life as a wealthy cloth merchants hall at the rear of the current building and gradually expanded forward as the woolen processes need to use the water from the stream. What you can see at the front of the building is really the most modern part of the building.

When you are ready carry on down Water Street until you see a house with brickwork in between the timbers of the building.
