    High Street

You are on High Street. Cross to the other side of the street. You will notice several holes in the building which happened as a consequence of the German bombing. Now look up to the top of the Town Hall. The carvings you see are images of African people and animals from the continent. These represent Liverpool's association with the Slave Trade in the 18th century. Politicians and merchants at the time were clearly proud to put on display portrayals which reveal and reflect the source of much of their wealth.

Now continue to the square at the top of High Street.
