    To Al Ahmadiya Street

Turn right here and keep going.

This part of Deira is characterised by its historic buildings, which were made from the strongest available materials at the time: coral from the sea and gypsum from the Creek's salt marshes.

If you look up, you’ll notice wind towers called barjeel jutting out from the tops of the neighbourhood’s buildings. They’re carefully positioned to draw in wind, which cools interiors in the summer months.

Narrow alleys like the one you're walking down provide relief from the heat too, and they’re set at sharp angles to help create breezy, shaded pedestrian walkways.

    Continue along the alleyway.
