LOCATION 8 | Escape to Coochiemudlo Island
Keep walking straight
Carry on heading along this street.
Development happened on Coochiemudlo in waves. The first farmers came in the early 1900s, but a lot of them left by the 1960s because they thought the island was getting too crowded.
A lady named Mary Morton was the only woman on Coochiemudlo for its first decade and she had a garden where the community hall stands now, on the north of the island. With its old jetty remnants, it's one of the island's three places of cultural significance. I'll tell you more about Mary and her husband a little later.
Keep walking straight, all the way to the end of this street. I'll catch up with you there.
