La Macarena to Parque Nacional
Parque de La Independencia
Keep to your left as you make your way down the stairs. You are about to enter the Parque de La Independencia, an iconic park of Bogotá.
Once inside, make your way to the left corner of the park.
[3 SECOND PAUSE]
The park was built to celebrate the 100 years of independence from Spain. Have a look at the magnificent palm trees, the palmas de cera. They are the national tree. This park grants one a peaceful break from the chaos of the surrounding city.
The park used to be larger but the construction of Calle 26 reduced its size. Calle 26 is the road ahead of you on the other side of the park. This change was completed in the 1950s.
Follow the pathway all the way to the other side of the park. You're going to make your way to the Quiosco de la luz. It's a small round building in the left corner of the park. I'll meet you there.
