Some of the aristocrats who lived in this neighborhood were educated in Europe and subsequently brought European culture and high society manners back to Colombia, and especially Bogotá.
For ladies it was usual to have tea and biscuits at 5 pm, but for some of them chocolate was the rule at that hour.
The gentlemen's suits came from London and the ladies had the latest collections from Paris. But few families had the status to be part of this neighborhood. It was a very exclusive area and extremely classist.
The years would change some of this social discrimination and Colombian society would gradually become less class-based. But even today the gap between rich and poor is as wide as ever.
