    Pay wave

    Continue along the river bank.

Have you heard that Bangkok was once called the Venice of the East? That's true but it's still hard to get a real understanding of just how water has shaped this city over its 230 year history. Right here is actually a pretty good place to get an idea.

Right now you have the main river on your right, and a smaller canal branching off from that straight in front of you. Well, way back when, that little canal in front of you WAS the main river, and the stretch of water on your right was verdant jungle.

But, the original route meandered here and there, and was a very long route down to the ocean. With maritime trade increasing, something needed to change.

Continue walking alongside the river. I'll meet you again soon.
