LOCATION 34 | Essential Whitby: A Guide to the Town’s Legends, Treasures and Main Sites
Market Place
You might want to shelter underneath the columned building on your left if its raining - otherwise enjoy the sunny day on the cobbles.
This impressive building also dates from 1788 and the architect - Jonathan Pickernell - also designed Whitby's famous stone piers.
Originally designed as a toll booth, the upstairs was a tone time Whitby's town hall. Plans are underway to open the space to the public again so hopefully it won't be too long until you can go upstairs and take a look.
Continue along the road.
