Lower Pannett on Whitby audio tour Essential Whitby: A Guide to the Town’s Legends, Treasures and Main Sites

Looking up to you left you'll spot a Parthenon-style building in the park. It wasn't always totally exposed as you see it now - however a number of people were doing things they shouldn't do in there and surrounding panels were removed in 1996.

Next to the park you'll see the entrance to the Quaker's Burial Ground. This land was purchased in 1659 and the wall built in the 1800s. Interestingly, a burial ground was purchased before a place of worship existed.

Quakers have played a significant role in Whitby's history and the Walker family, for whom a young James Cook served his apprenticeship, were Quakers and you'll see their house later in the tour.
