This fountain completes the four seasons, which are placed at the four corners of the Woods of the Sconce and the Dolphin in the middle of the garden. We've already visited Ceres, Bacchus and Saturn. This then is Flora, representing the remaining season.
Flowers ring her hair, and blooms abound around her, including roses, anemones, blueberries and heliotropes. Four cherubs frolic playfully about. Her fountain literally explodes in color after a very recent restoration. Every Spring, 200000 newly planted flowers enchant the Versailles garden, and Flora is said to look lovingly after each one. Flora is, of course, the goddess of Springtime.
Let's keep moving by going clock-wise around the fountain. Continue walking in the same direction as the way you got here, turning your back on Flora, and heading toward Ceres on the Allée de Ceres et de Flore.
We'll pick up the story of Fouquet as you walk.
