Bassin du Dragon
The basin before you is called the Dragon fountain. Walk around it as I speak.
Once again, the hero is Apollo. The sculptor tells the story of Apollo battling the mythical creature Python, represented here as a dragon. Juno, the jealous wife of Jupiter, has sent Python to kill her husband's illegitimate children born of Latona.
Although just a toddler, Apollo is already mastering his powers as a demigod. When the dragon draws near to attack, Apollo splits himself into four separate baby-faced archers, each riding a swan. As any good military force, Apollo divides and conquers, raining arrows to down the beast.
Water is a symbol for life, creation and knowledge. We have moved from the scientific origins of man, in Neptune's grand Pool, to his childhood, here at the Dragon fountain. Man's evolution continues as we climb up.
With the Dragon and the Pool of Neptune at your back, we will take the entrance on your right to the Wood of the Three Fountains.
