    Steilneset Minnested - Exit

    Pay wave

Please leave the Steilneset Memorial by crossing the small, wooden bridge, and follow the path that leads to the left.

The memorial was opened by the Norwegian Queen Sonja, on June 23rd, 2011. It is located next to what is thought to be the execution site of many of the 91 victims.

If you look to your left, across the strait, you can see the mountain Domen, behind the airport. This mountain were designated as "witch mountain". It is said that Satan lived in this mountain, and the entrance to hell would be found there.

One of the confessions of the accused women, 12 year old Mari Olsdatter, was that she had celebrated Midsummer Eve on “Domen” along with Satan himself and a number of other trolls.

    Continue along the path.
