    Steilnes Chapel

Now turn left, and follow the path towards the fortress. But please be aware that in the wintertime, this path can be difficult to follow, and that you will need to follow the road instead. That will take you a few extra minutes.

To your right is a small white building. This is the Vardø chapel – or Steilneset chapel, as the locals say.

The chapel was built in 1908. It was restored in the 1990's and was completed in 1997. In recent years it has become increasingly popular, with weddings, baptisms and funeral services being held in it.

Please follow the path up to the open site in front of Vardøhus fortess. I'll leave you in silence for a few minutes to enjoy the tranquility.
