Vardø: Pomors, Radars and Witches in the Far North

    Hello and welcome to Vardø!

My name is Lars, and I'll be showing you the highlights of Vardø. I live in Vardø and am passionate about the history and culture of Finnmark.

This will be a tour through past and present. Along the way, you'll discover many interesting facts and stories, as well as learning how both the Devil and God have influenced the city.

You should be standing on the wooden boardwalk of the port. Behind you is a collection of large red rocks and the port's warehouses.

    So, let's get going!

If you're facing the opposite bay, turn to the right. Then begin walking along the path that leads to your right, away from the water.

You're walking towards the white building that is directly in front of you, perched on the shore. This is the Vardø Hotel.

While you walk, I'll briefly explain how VoiceMap works.

It uses your location to play audio automatically, at the right time and place. This means that you can put your phone away now. Don't worry if I'm silent for a while, when I'm not giving directions or telling stories. There's a map on your screen if you ever feel lost, and if you do get off track without noticing, VoiceMap will let you know.

Continue towards the hotel. You'll hear from me shortly.
