Tour Locations | The Trail of Independence: Tracing the origins of modern Tel Aviv
Right on Herzl St
On the corner turn right, keeping the brown house on your right. We are diverging away from the brass route embedded in the pavement.
Keep walking while I tell you more.
The first school of Tel Aviv was named after Hertzl, as well as this street leading up to it. The first Tel Avivians were in love with Hertzl's vision. They also named the entire city after a book he wrote titled “Old New Land”, suggesting that the Jewish people will return to its old land and make it anew. "Tel Aviv" figuratively represents this combination of old (Tel) and new (Aviv).
How amazing is it, that Tel Aviv is named after a book? Just imagine travelling to Great Britain and visiting a city named “Harry Potter”, eh?
