LOCATION 6 | Lavenham: A Walk on the Medieval Side
You are now in Hall Road. If you look to the left, the road leads up to the De Vere hall but it also used to go past the hall to a number of deer parks. The De Vere family obviously enjoyed the taste of venison, or was it the taste of wild boar?
Now, turn right and head down Hall St towards the High St in the village.
Lavenham Hall is on the site of the original manor house. The Lords of the manor would keep law and order and miscreants would have to defend themselves at his court. The De Vere family were very proactive in helping Lavenham prosper. Because the De Veres were close to the Kings of the England their tenants often received advantages in their trading activities, like lower taxes.
Carry on walking.
