One Quarter of the Way Around the World

If lines on a map existed on the surface of the earth, we would soon be passing over a line marking the 90th degree line of longitude. This line would cross the Interstate, between mile marker 10.0 on our right, and the emergency turn-around in the middle of the Interstate. When we cross over this precise point, we will be exactly ¼ of the way around the world, or smack dab in the middle of the Western Hemisphere.

If we were to dig a hole right here straight through the center of the Earth, we would pop out on the other side in the middle of the Indian Ocean, more than 1,000 miles away from Australia, the nearest continent. If you decided to try it, don’t forget a snorkel!
