    Big Little India

Hello there. Welcome to the Voicemap tour of Big Little India. Why "big" you ask? That will make itself evident as we walk.

So you've taken Exit C out of the 'Little India' MRT station and gone up the escalator. You should see a big orange and yellow building on your left and a main road on your right. We'll start in a minute, but first let me tell you a bit about the walk.

My name is Jaynt and I work with Voicemap. I was born and raised in Singapore but lived in Australia and America during my formative years. My bosses thought that since my grandparents immigrated to Singapore from India, I would be the perfect person to lead you on this walk. They were kind of right.

Singapore's connection to India starts at the very beginning. You see, the city got its name from the Sanskrit words Singha Pura which translates to Lion City.

Now, Sanskrit is an ancient indo-Euopean language of India; in which the Hindu scriptures were written. So, while the National language of Singapore is Malay, you could say the Singapore is an Indian name.

I don't speak ANY of the Indian languages; of which there more than 1600! But don't worry, I know this neighborhood like the back of my hand.

Okay. Lets start walking. Make sure that the orange and yellow building is on your left and the main road is on your right, and head down the pathway.

You can put your phone away, and focus on the surroundings. I might be quiet now and again, but just keep walking unless I tell you otherwise. My voice will kick in again at each location.
