Tour Locations | From the Golden Age to the Glory of Siena’s Present Traditions
Start - Dolce Siena
Ahhh, welcome to Siena, the beautiful hilltop city, known for its very special horse race and some of the most impressive Gothic buildings across Italy. My name is Elisabetta, and today I'm thrilled to share with you the incredible stories and sights that I have discovered in my years as a tour guide here.
You should be standing in front of the deli shop Dolce Siena, located right next to the Town Hall, the majestic brick palace flanked by a very high tower that has been the center of local politics since the beginning of the 1300s. More unique than that is the square where all this is located. Please turn to face it.
Have you ever seen a shell-shaped square before?
This is the Campo or piazza del Campo but to get the best view, please follow me to the next stop.
With your back to Dolce Siena, ahead of you on the left, you should see a green cross signposting a pharmacy. Please walk there.
While we walk, let me briefly explain how VoiceMap works.
It uses your location to play audio automatically, at the right time and place. This means that you can put your phone away now. Don't worry if I'm silent at times, when I'm not giving directions or telling stories. There's a map on your screen if you ever feel lost, and if you do get way off track without noticing, VoiceMap will let you know.
Our exploration of Siena will cover art, traditions, local lifestyle and of course a bit of history ... 2 millennia is a long period but I am determined not to lecture you...or bore you! Instead, I'll give you some information in an entertaining way that I hope will delight you.
