    Diacceto

    Turn right here please.

You might be out of breath but this is a lovely area to walk through for multiple reasons: there are very few vehicles and the buildings have been rearranged through the centuries!

Doesn't the view open up beautifully over the valley here? Feel free to stop and take it in.

We are on top of one of the old city gates in Siena, named Salaria as salt was brought into town through here. Salt was almost a commodity, very expensive and very precious being one of the few options to preserve food. Tradition reports bread in Tuscany has been baked for centuries without salt to save money!

    Let's carry on uphill.
