    Casa delle Balie

Stop here at the corner please.

This marks the place where an orphanage was located in the Middle Ages, as a matter of fact, the emblem of a baby inside a crib can be spotted above the door to the left of the gift shop.

All this is pertinent to the historical Hospital Santa Maria Della Scala, serving for centuries as a shelter for pilgrims or travelers, as a foundling house or as a general hospital. Until the 1980s it was still in service, now it's a museum.

When you're ready, continue to walk uphill. When you get to the Duomo square, please remain on this side of the square, staying close to the buildings as you walk.

Preview mode limited to first 3 locations.
