    Alms Road/Gum Tree Girls Trail

From here, at the top of the stairs by the tennis courts, follow the dirt road to your left into the canyon. This road is usually called Alms Road because it was once proposed to extend to the Alms House – today’s Laguna Honda Hospital – on its way to Golden Gate Park.

Today, it's also the Gum Tree Girls Trail, acknowledging the legacy of three young Glen Park moms who became grassroots activists in the 1960s. They would stand up to both the City of San Francisco and the State of California several times over ten years to save our neighborhood from being converted into a major freeway to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Preview mode limited to first 3 locations.
