    Train tracks in a park?

Train tracks in a park? on Paris audio tour Highlights Around Parc Montsouris: From Hidden Water to Secret Villages

Keep walking down the street with the park fence to your right.

The bridge above you was built for an experimental steam train going to the town of Sceaux, way outside Paris. Nowadays, it's a suburban train line. As you walk under the bridge, look up, you’ll see the typical riveted steel and bricks of the period, very steampunk. Now you may wonder: who builds a park around a train track? Remember dominion over nature? Nineteenth-century France loved putting industrial bits in what was meant to be a healthy natural area!

Keep walking past the bridge and look across the street to your left. Can you see a smaller park on a sort of stone platform? Now, look at the base of the stones, at street level. Do you see a glass window with white stones in it? Don't worry if you can't, keep walking down the street. We'll be taking a closer look at it just now.

Preview mode limited to first 3 locations.
