Coluche on Paris audio tour Highlights Around Parc Montsouris: From Hidden Water to Secret Villages

You’re now on rue Gazan, walking along the cool, shaded fence of Parc Montsouris to your right.

On the other side of the street, you’ll notice a rare, low red brick house at number 11. It was the home of Michel Colucci, better known as Coluche. He was a famous French comedian and actor, and also an activist: he even ran for president in 1981, as the ultimate troll to the French political class, using this house as his base. Several established political parties got scared after opinion polls predicted he would get more than 10% of the vote, and he was pressured to retract his candidacy. As a non-French speaker, you may not have heard a lot of Coluche’s material or seen his films, but the secular, non-governmental food bank he created, “Les restos du coeur” or "the restaurants of the heart" is still very active to this day, and feeds thousands of struggling French families every year. Let's keep walking along the park.
