    the modern day university building

When you reach the corner, take a right and stop to look again at the building facing the park.

As we learned before, this was the site of the original University building. That gothic marble masterpiece was demolished in 1894 and construction immediately began on the building that stands here today.

Notice the three-part division of the façade. The first two floors with their larger windows were meant to be storefronts, the middle section was rented out to offices, and the upper portion was reserved for the university. Do you recognize the columns from the rowhouses we saw earlier? That's the subtle ornamentation characteristic of the Greek Revival Style.
