As you turn the corner stop and look at the building across the street, diagonal to the park.
You can immediately see the contrast in style compared to the rowhouses we were just looking at. Built a century later, these larger buildings are in the Renaissance-revival style, inspired by the palaces, and fortresses of Renaissance Italy and France.
Notice the articulated brickwork above the second floor. The upper layer is a row of dentils, or small rectangular blocks resembling teeth. Underneath are ornamental brick pentagons, with a row of sawtooth brick below.
When you’re done appreciating this building, continue on to the end of the block, keeping the park behind you.
