On our way to Clouet Gardens

    Pay wave

Now we're on our way to Clouet Gardens. I'll tell you about them as you walk.

The plot sat empty for fifteen years. It was one of many vacant, blighted spots in the city, until the neighbors around it began to reclaim it in 2010. The community cleaned it up, beautified it with homemade murals, and established a ten-year lease of the property from the city's Housing Authority.

Since then, Clouet Gardens has become one of the most interesting public spaces in the area, hosting events that range from family-friendly Halloween parties to the New Orleans Book Fair to "Christmas with the Goats." That's a holiday celebration of carols, music, and live goats. Most days, though, it's just a nice place to hang out and enjoy a quiet, leafy spot in the center of this expanding neighborhood.

    Keep walking straight ahead.
