Tour Locations | The Mysteries of Milan: From the Duomo to the Royal Palace
Now that you've crossed the road, take the path that forks to the right and walk straight on until you come out into a square.
In the Middle Ages the most powerful people in the city were the clergy. This was their land and there were several hospices where the friars would look after lepers and plague victims. One of these was poetically named the Hospital of the Archibishop’s Garden. The friars and their patients were buried in a nearby cemetary. The grim reaper would frequently carry away large swathes of the population. It’s no wonder people were so superstitious. By the 13th century the cemetery had become too small so the bones were stored in the church that you are walking beside now.
