Theatreland Tour with Ian McKellen
Stop at the end of the alleyway. You’re about to turn left, but before you do, I want to point something out on the other side of the road. Look over to the right. You’ll see a restaurant. It's called Rules. Do you see the one? It’s got red flags hanging from its upstairs cocktail bar. This is the oldest restaurant in London.
Rules is a haunt of those actors who can afford to eat here. And it has since been used in a number of films, including the James Bond film, Spectre.
Now it’s time to turn left. You’re leaving Rules behind you and heading down Maiden Lane.
The interior of Rules makes for a very elegant set. They offer tours inside.
We haven’t talked much about set design today. In a minute we’ll meet the designer who pioneered many techniques still used in theatre today.
