    Bedford Street

    Pay wave

Turn right here, into Bedford Street. And let me tell you about a really talented of London Theatre.

Back in the 17th century, the architect Inigo Jones was the designer of many an ingenious set.

To attend a play designed by Jones was a marvel. Scenery would descend from the ceiling, the first time moving sets had been seen in the country. Stages would be bathed in coloured light, another first, and that was achieved by placing tinted glass in front of candles.

Now, ignore the road heading off to your right. Cross over it and continue straight on.

More about Inigo Jones. His set designs were breathtaking but his costumes were the main attraction perhaps. They were so wondrous and lavish that many of his initial sketches of them remain, to this day, treasures in their own right.

Keep walking. I’m going to stop you shortly.
