St Nicholas Church entrance and gardens

You should now be outside the church. You are most welcome to step inside to take look around. If you wish to do so, you can pause the audio now.

When you're done, come back to this spot and press play.

    [4 SECONDS PAUSE]

Leaving the church turn right to walk diagonally across the gardens towards a flight of steps in the far corner.

The Gardens are the home to a number of memorials linking the Church with seafaring. For example, there are plaques to commemorate ships lost at sea. There is also a memorial to the seamen who lost their lives in the Arctic Campaign during the Battle of the Atlantic.

The figure you see lying on a bench is known as the Homeless Jesus, a sculpture installed in 2019 to highlight the plight of Liverpool's homeless.

Now take the steps to the street below. I'll meet you there.
