LOCATION 1 | Lisbon: The Age of Discovery
Start - Afonso de Albuquerque Square
Hi there! Welcome to Belém. I’m Pats and I’ll be guiding you today on The Age of Discovery tour.
You should be standing at the entrance to the square, with the road and the Belém Palace behind you. The Belém Palace is also known as the pink palace. Its the official residence of the Portuguese president.
In front of you is a large monument with a statue on top.
Belém is a unique location. This historic district is nestled on the banks of the Tejo river, away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
Its from here that the Portuguese explorers of the 1400s and 1500s departed to discover the world.
Get ready to set your sails and discover these amazing routes.
[1.5 SECOND PAUSE]
Before you get going, let me briefly explain how VoiceMap works.
It uses your location to play audio automatically, at the right time and place.
This means that you can put your phone away now.
Don't worry if I'm silent for a while, when I'm not giving directions or telling stories.
There's a map on your screen if you ever feel lost, and if you do get way off track without noticing, VoiceMap will let you know.
So, lets get going!
Start making your way towards the statue, keeping to the left of it.
You'll hear from me a little further ahead.
