Leaving the Caesar of the East Monument

Stop here for a moment to have a look at the monument from this side.

The two levels of the base are made of limestone. They depict some episodes of the life and governmental action of Afonso de Albuquerque. These include important battles and the submission of the Indians, as well as the ships, caravels and galleons that formed his fleet.

Four winged figures at the base, represent the main qualities of his character: genius, strength, courage and justice. At the top, you’ll find a bronze statue of the Portuguese conquistador. Doesn’t he look fierce?

When you're ready to move on, turn left onto this path and continue walking to exit the square. You'll hear from me again when you get to the road.
