    Stone Bridge 1

You should be parked, with the front of the car facing a small industrial looking dam and a large brown sign that reads Anderson Rose Dam. And through that dam is flowing the Lost River, once again.

But before this place became part of the Bureau of Reclamation with the Klamath irrigation project , this natural crossing was known as Stone Bridge because of the natural stepping-stones that once crossed it. The Modoc used the crossing all the time, and typically built their winter encampments close to it.

Now still facing the dam, look upriver to your right. Do you see how the land juts out on the left bank of the river, a kind of natural grassy promontory? That's the approximate spot where the Ben Wright Massacre took place. That part of the river is where the Modoc fled before being shot as they came up for air.
