A Walk through Keene's History
Town Meeting House
Stop here for a moment and look across the street at the impressive white building with the tall white tower.
This is the beautiful United Church of Christ. It has been moved, turned, altered, and raised over time. It was built as the town meetinghouse more than 200 years ago. It is an important landmark in Keene and has become a symbol of the city's 18th century heritage. Many people call it "the church at the head of the square".
When you're done admiring the tower, turn with your back to the church.
Straight ahead, on the other side of Central Square, is Main Street, the double lane street. That's where you're headed next.
Walk along the path that heads to your right. This will lead you back towards West Street, where you just came from.
Cross the street towards West Street. Then cross West Street so that you are on the right side of Main Street.
