A Walk through Keene's History
Keene Central Fire Station
You can't miss the bright red color of the The Keene Fire Department Building on your left. Once you've had a look, keep walking along Vernon Street.
The building was built in 1885. Over the years, it has held the city's three separate fire companies: Keene Steam Fire Engine and Hose Company, Deluge Hose Company, and Washington Hook and Ladder Company. This brick building was designed to have horse-drawn ladder trucks. The building has caught on fire twice, in May 1914 and March 1926.
Continue walking on Vernon Street towards Court Street.
