A Walk through Keene's History
Henry Colony House
In front of you is the Keene Public Library.
Once you've had a good look, continue walking along the sidewalk with the library on your left.
The library was the home of Henry Colony. He was the treasurer and business manager of the Cheshire Textile Mills in Harrisville, New Hampshire. You'll hear more about the Colony family later in the tour. In 1898 this home was purchased by Edward Thayer for donation to the city for a public library. The building has had several renovations and additions and continues to be our library here in Keene.
Keep going along Winter Street.
