    Keep cycling.

The fishing industry experienced a dramatic downturn towards the end of the 19th century. There were several reasons including the traditional method of line fishing and drift fishing for herring was supplanted by trawler fishing, and this together with the shoals moving further offshore. The people of Claddagh continued their long relationship with the sea when during World War One many of the young men joined the British Navy. Today, Galway Bay continues to be a valuable source of crab, lobster and Dublin Bay prawns with several families with fishing rights there.

Our next stop is the Mutton Island Lighthouse and the Causeway. Keep going.
