Made in Dundee
Turn to your left and walk down the street.
In 1924 King George presented the emerald back to Dundee, in memory of James Caird. The King expressed the wish that it would always remain in the hands of the city. As a result, the Caird Emerald is now part of the Provost's chain. The Provost is the head of the town council, essentially the Scottish term for mayor. And so in Dundee's provost's chain is a 271 carat stone, one of the largest cut emeralds in the world.
