Tour Locations | Derrie Danders: A Guide to the Quayside and North City
The Quay - view of Foyle Port Marina
The pathway will veer of to the left shortly, but first stop here and look out over the Foyle Port Marina.
You can see some small boats tied up along the pontoons. Have you heard of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race? Biannually, between 2012- 2018, the city was the penultimate host port for the Round the World Yacht Race, and was due to host it again in 2020 until the COVID-19 pandemic prevented this. When the clippers arrive in the city, they have just sailed across the Atlantic, so the city is a welcome haven for the crews. As it is also close to the end of the race, it is also one of their big party cities. During the approximate 10 days that the clippers stay in port, the local council arranges a Foyle Maritime Festival which brings a lot of visitors to the city, to see the Clippers and also some of the other boats that visit, including Tall Ships and Naval vessels that also come into port for the festival.
Definitely a great time to visit here, so keep an eye out for this when arranging your future travel plans.
Now follow the path round to the left. The next stop is just ahead.
