    The Golden Teapot

The Golden Teapot on Derry / Londonderry audio tour Derrie Danders: A Guide to the Quayside and North City

Once across the road, pause for a moment to get a better look at the golden teapot.

You may want to stop briefly and read the information board but I will tell you the key facts about it as we continue our walk. When you're ready, continue along Strand Road.

Originally the teapot was located in a grocery business from 1866 in the nearby Waterloo Place, but over the years it has been moved throughout the city, before finding its current home at Fallers Jewellers, since 2003 to mark their 130th anniversary. It is made from copper but gilded with 23 carat gold and weighs 74kg, so hopefully it is securely attached!
It rivals another teapot in Boston erected in memory of the famous tea party which would eventually lead to the American War of Independence.

Keep walking. Follow the pavement as it veers to the left and enters Waterloo Place, our final stop.

Preview mode limited to first 3 locations.
