    Point of Departure - 1840's emigration

    On your left is a block of recycled timber with a plaque. Stop by it for a moment.

    There are a number of these along the river, showing important places of departure. This one is an indicative location for the 1840's famine emigration and I will tell you more about this important event at a further location.

    Now continue following the path as it veers to the right and then continues along the river past the modern white tower building housing the City Council offices.
