Great Hall Magee College
You have now arrived at the main building of the original Magee College campus, that of the Great Hall.
Please stop here and have a look at the building.
It was designed by the Dublin architect, E.P.Gribbon in a gothic style and built from Scottish sandstone. It opened its doors to students on 24th October 1865, and came into existence primarily to provide a theological education for the men training for the Presbyterian ministry. The hall is named after its generous benefactor, Mrs Martha Magee, and you will see a blue plaque to her honour at the doorway. How and why the college came to be located here I will explain in more detail as we walk.
When you are ready, facing the Great Hall, turn to your left and walk straight, in direction of the more modern Students Union building. I'll meet you there.
