• LOCATION 28 | Haunted Chester: A Spooky Stroll around the Roman-Walled City

    Left into Abbey Square

Turn left, following the cobblestones - do take care here for slippery stones - and head into Abbey Square, where you will find the rear facade of the cathedral and a school for special-needs children.

Number three Abbey Square, part of a row of fine Georgian houses on the right, was the site of the original bakery and brewery used by the monks at the cathedral. This now a private residence but the owners report that, over the years, the house still fills with the strong aromas of bread and beer as if the monks had just popped out for a moment.

Before you head through the arch of Abbey Gate, turning left back to Town Hall Square, you might pause a moment to contemplate all you have seen on this tour so far — what have you learnt?

Preview mode limited to first 3 locations.
