Spier Art Walk: Wine Tasting Room
On your right is the entrance to the Artisan Studio.
Let’s stop here for a moment.
The artisan studio is a satellite of the Spier Artisan Studio Cape Town.
Once the artisans graduate from the Artisan Apprenticeship Programme, they are given a space to rent for a year and work on live commissions. The artisans translate artworks into two mediums, the mosaics and beadworks. These artworks are available for purchase by the public.
You’ll notice the wall outside the Spier Artisan Studio is home to a mural by acclaimed artist Liza Grobler.
Made with mixed media materials, Just Add Water depicts Spier’s historic and ecological setting — referencing both a historic deeds map (which is housed in the Manor House) as well as contemporary activities embodying the farm’s ethos such as the Spier Artisan Studio.
Feel free to have a look inside to see some of the artists at work and meet them.
Otherwise if you prefer, just continue along the path, until you get to a large bell called the Slave Bell.
