Baz'Art Salt River Street Art Tour
El-X Ray wall
Turn so that you're facing the low wall opposite the school yard. Wait here while I tell you a more. You'll see the work of Ello by her cryptic combination of all the key elements used to identify Cape Town. Ello depicts proteas, fynbos, sunsets, moonlights, ocean views and mountain tops.
On the corner to the left of Ello's piece, we'll discover a mosaic by Marcelino Manhula. The idea behind these stone mosaic portraits was to immortalize the local school going residents of Salt River who are the subjects. The artist wished to inspire them to make consistent efforts to become someone worth venerating once they grow older.
On the left of the stone mosaic portraits we see an asymmetrical play on ice cube shapes. It's a 3D visual effect of ice melting every day all around our planet and raising awareness of the impact it will have on our lives and that of our children. This piece was created by Abdullah & Rose de Wouters.
With the school yard on your left walk towards the end of the road.
