La Macarena to Parque Nacional
Turn right to continue walking towards the mountains, following the street as it curves to the left.
[1.5 SECOND PAUSE]
Up this road towards the mountains is the Colegio San Bartolomé La Merced. You may see some of the students passing by. The first futbol or soccer games played in Bogotá took place on the Colegio's field the early 1900s. The players were the Colegio's Jesuit priests. Millonarios, one of the main teams of Bogota was started there.
Colombian sport is dominated by futbol. But the other national sport is cycling. Our cyclists are considered some of the best hill climbers in the world. This is due to the prevalence of mountains all over the country, like the range above Bogota. The world's best cycling races always have Colombians in the top spots.
If you have the time, I would recommend travelling by road around Colombia. You will be amazed by the variety of temperature, food, the look of the people and the scenery, depending on which region you visit.
Keep going, following the street as it curves to the left. We're now entering the barrio La Merced, a classic neighborhood of the city.
