LOCATION 15 | Walk the Highlights of Medieval Bath
Left on Northumberland Place
Now turn left here along another walkway called Northumberland Place, enjoying the sights and sounds of today's cafe society and interesting shops.
About halfway along on your left is a fine example of an English pub, called the Couer De Lion, which is French for Lionheart. Pub names are fascinating and the reason for this pub's name here in Bath is because the Lionheart, was actually King Richard the first of England and a sizeable part of France in the late 12th century. It was he who gave this city its first Royal Charter. This charter freed Bath from a lot of royal control, but for a price of course!
Continue to the archway and emerge onto the High Street.
