When you've reached the corner, please turn left on to the Eerste Helmerstraat.

This neighborhood is called the Helmersbuurt.

It has its origins at the end of the 19th century.

The neighborhood was built as a plan of the necessary urban expansion.

At that time, the neighborhood was meant for the poorer inhabitants and had all the characteristics of a working class district.

In the years after the 2nd World War, it began to change rapidly.

The neighborhood came more and more in line with the higher income, due to its favourable location and close proximity.

Nowadays, the Helmersbuurt is a very popular area in Amsterdam because of the cool shops and good restaurants.

With the Vondelpark around the corner you can relax or be sporty at one of the tennis clubs.

Keep walking along the Eerste Helmerstraat.
